I had some happy news last week: The story of Gigi’s adventure with her beloved green tomato has been picked up by The Bark, a magazine I happen to love. In other words, if I were a dog, my tail would be wagging like that of a retriever with a tennis ball. (Or Gigi herself with a pork chop.) Big shout here to The Bark editor Lisa Wogan for making it happen.
If you don’t know The Bark, it’s a bi-monthly magazine about modern dog culture, with a literary twist. If NPR’s office dog hung around after hours, The Bark might be what he’d produce as his moonlighting project. I’m tempted to say that there’s plenty in each issue to appeal to the non-dog lover as well. But I have four dogs, so you shouldn’t trust my opinion anyway.

Okay, I always knew you were about the coolest thing since sliced bread, but now you're the coolest thing since the milk bone – or maybe the Kong. I love BARK – and I'm pretending this is happening to me because I read your blog faithfully. So, by osmosis…right?
Well deserved! I remember reading this piece and it has really stuck with me. Just like people, dogs are reasonably smart, but can be totally blind to the obvious. Take me for example: I cannot count the times I have approached a door, read P-U-S-H, and then pulled it not once, not twice but three or four times.

I love Bark and subscribe to it, so thrilled to have GiGi featured.
I was so proud to read this news and her story, since she's a rescue from us, but then I looked closer and thought hmmmm, this may not be the IQ test results for the breed that one would hope for. I tell people though, that intelligence is overrated, getting one into trouble easily, and sweetness matters more, which is so true in this breed and possibly in most of the people in our day to day lives:).
Totally agree, Carolyn. Intelligence is way overrated, at least for Gigi, because she's once of the happiest little pups I've ever known. Life is uncomplicated for her, because what could there possibly be to complicate it..? She can't fathom.
